About The Annual Congress

25th Annual Congress - 2013

 

The Annual Congress is an international scientific forum organized by the PGIA every year with a multitude of objectives. It aims at promoting postgraduate research in agriculture by providing a forum for presentation, discussion and debate, disseminating research findings. The Congress stimulates interaction and relationship among postgraduate students and scientists of different universities and various institutes of the country and the region.

VENUE

The Congress is held at the Plant Genetic Resources Centre (PGRC), Gannoruwa, Peradeniya, located 6 km from the ancient city of Kandy .

KANDY CITY

Located 110 km away from Colombo, Kandy  is one of the most scenic cities  in the country. It is the hill capital of the country with a year-round pleasant climate. The Kandy city attracts a large number of foreign as well as local visitors due to its historical significance, rich natural beauty and cultural life.

The Annual Congress is held completely in English.

 

TRAVELING TO SRI LANKA

You need to arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Colombo to which many international airlines serve. Sri Lankan Airline, British Airways, are among the major carriers serving BIA.  The airport code is CMB. You may find more details by visiting the BIA website.   

 

TRAVEL GRANTS AND AWARDS

A limited number of travel grants are available for paper presenters from the SAARC countries. Presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges and the presenters exhibiting high standards of professional excellence will receive awards. The paper must be presented by the first author to be eligible for an award.

 

REGISTRATION

Payments should be made by money order/bank draft written in favour of the Director, PGIA. Cash payments are accepted at the Accounts Branch of the PGIA. 

 

Please download the Annual Congress brochure  and send in the duly filled tear off slip to the Congress Office by the October 12th.

Foreign participants could pay by international bank draft .

The participants should register on or before October 21, 2013. The registration fee covers the cost of the abstract booklet, conference materials, lunch and refreshments.

 

 

TRANSPORT FOR FOREIGN PARTICIPANTS

 

Transport can be arranged to Kandy from the Airport (Colombo). Accommodation with a wide range of facilities and options is available.  Hotel and guest house rates vary from US$ 25 to US$ 125 per day.
