The Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA) of the University of Peradeniya, the only such institute in Sri Lanka, has been in existence since 1975, offering postgraduate degrees of M.Sc., M.B.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in broad areas of agricultural sciences. The first Congress of the PGIA was held in 1989 and it became an annual event thereafter. Over the years the PGIA Congress has evolved into a recognized scientific event among postgraduate students and scientists in agriculture and related fields in the region. 

The objectives of the Congress are to:

  • Provide a forum for postgraduate research presentations, discussions and debates.
  • Promote postgraduate research.
  • Disseminate research findings in collaboration with other relevant institutions.
  • Stimulate interactions among postgraduate students and scientists of different universities and institutions within Sri Lanka and the region.

The 22nd annual congress will be held on Nov. 25 - 26, 2010   at Plant Genetic Resources Centre (PGRC), Gannoruwa, Peradeniya,Sri Lanka.
