India-Sri Lanka Foundation funded International workshop on ‘Harnessing the Plant Microbiome for Agricultural Sustainability’ which was organized by the Board of Study in Plant Protection, Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture was held at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya on 23-24th April 2026. Scientists from Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, India and National research institutes, National Universities and Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka served as resource persons. A total of 50 participants representing the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka, Agriculture Department (Central Province), National Research Institutes, Cooperate sector representatives of the plantation sector and postgraduate students attended the workshop. In parallel, a poster session and a was held to showcase the research findings of the postgraduate students who conduct their research related to the above theme.
    The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, fostering regional collaboration and highlighting innovative approaches to harnessing beneficial plant–microbe interactions for sustainable crop production and enhanced agricultural resilience. It also underscored the growing importance of microbiome-based solutions in addressing contemporary agricultural challenges and promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices.
