PGIA - TAMAP Training Course on Agricultural Policy Analysis
October 04 – November 02, 2021


The 5-week Online Course in Agricultural Policy Analysis offered by the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA) will be held from October 04 to November 02, 2021. The objective of the course is to strengthen national capacities for evidence-based policy analysis by providing theoretical knowledge and practical tools for assessing the economic impacts of key domestic and trade policies related to agriculture. The first offering of the course held in February 2021 was highly valued by the 25 participants. Due to prevailing pandemic situation, the next course will now be offered in fully online mode.

The course is sponsored by the European Union funded Technical Assistance to the Modernization of Agriculture Programme (TAMAP) and endorsed by the National Planning Department of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture. The course is based on the book titled “Agricultural Policy Analysis: Concepts and Tools for Emerging Economies” that was developed by Sri Lankan and international academics and published internationally by Springer Nature in 2021. The resource persons of the course will be mainly chapter authors, senior academics, and key industry professionals.

For the detailed outline of the course visit Click here The courses will consist of lectures in theory and practical sessions providing hands on training on key areas of agricultural policy analysis. As detailed in the attached outline, participants are expected to devote minimum of 45 hours during the 5-week period to complete the course. Participants successfully completing the course will be awarded a certificate.

The target audience for the course is senior and mid-level public officers from central and provincial government Ministries and Departments, executives from relevant private sector organisations, and academics with an interest in policy research and holding positions that contribute to policymaking. While not mandatory, prior studies in basic economics at the undergraduate level will be beneficial to get the full benefits of course participation. Participants will be paid an allowance to meet data charges and other additional costs relating to course participation.
