The Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya was established in 1975 with the main objective of developing in-country capacity for postgraduate education in agriculture and to provide appropriately trained scientific personnel for a rapidly expanding agricultural sector of the country.

Over the past three decades it has achieved substantial progress and has emerged as a “Centre of Excellence” in higher education in agricultural sciences in the country.

New Director Appointed.

Prof. C.M.B. Dematawewa has been appointed as the 9th Director of PGIA on 09th of November 2017.


Conferment of degrees at the general convocation 2017

A total of 371 graduates inclusive of 09 Ph.D., 20 M.Phil, 320 M.Sc., and 22 MBA from the PGIA were conferred degrees at the General Convocation of the University of Peradeniya for the year 2017 held on 5th July 2018.

Short Course on ICT Stewardship for Agricultural Extension

The board of study in Agricultural Extension, Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture offers two day short course on ICT Stewardship for Agricultural Extension.
This course is designed to introduce extension and development practitioners to the basic skills in technology stewardship, community engagements methods, and using low cost ICTs to plan and conduct a short term extension campaign.

Ph.D. examination Ms. S.R.M.R. Attanayake , Board of study in Food Science & Technology took place on 26th July, 2018 at 10.30 a.m. The title of the research was “Studying the biochemical composition of pomegranate grown under different environmental conditions and maturity stages”
The examiners were Prof. N.S. Kottearachchi, Dr. Ilmi Hewajulige and Prof. K.M.S. Wimalasiri. Her work was supervised by senior supervisor Dr. P.C.G. Bandaranayake and supervisor Prof. W.A.P. Weerakkody.
